COLNE VALLEY BEAGLES - NEW YEAR'S DAY 2015

New Year’s Day 2015 started as a wild windy and then a very wet, very wild, very windy day in our neck of the woods.

The Colne Valley Beagles New Year's Day Meet was well attended as usual.  After the odd liquid pick-me in the convivial social gathering in the pub, the hounds were displayed, a particular pleasure for the children. There then followed a couple of hours exercise for those with sufficient stamina in the gusting gale force winds.  The pub soon beckoned them back to those who had the sense to stay there.

It is traditional, after a little lubrication, for many with the talent that lurks around these hills, to sing lustily and with feeling.  ‘Singer’s choice’ meant the singer nominated the subsequent performer.  The wonderful free stew and dumplings for all, provided by Bob and Joyce, our excellent hosts, caused a temporary break in the proceedings before more spontaneous singing with outpourings of heart and soul into the late evening and maybe beyond.

Herewith a few images of the CVB’s New Year’s Day.

The display over - hounds off for exercise
The pub bugle sounds to get some order for the singers.

Our Hon. Sec. selling the last raffle ticket before the draw while the chorus goes on.

Following our traditions, with the strong social bond in the two valleys, events like this are priceless to us.  Many here work in and maintain the countryside.  Some of us are a bunch of benign geriatrics where this active social pastime keeps us from prematurely lapsing into a withering senility.

Addendum - This photo is one I have pinched from a site run by a friend who takes some excellent photographs - Technical Traditionalist

It is so good I just had to put a copy on here.
