A BIT OF PICK AND MIX

It seems that nearly every time I want to use my camera these days it is a gloomy overcast day.  It just does not have the speed in these conditions to capture anything moving and be reasonably sharp.  Still, beggars can’t be choosers and I have to put up with it - and blame the tackle.

So, a few recent pics from the Colne Valley Beagles and the Rockwood Harriers.  Looking at the CVB followers below, compared with those of the Rockwood further down, one can readily understand that beagling is not about glamour!

The Colne Valley Beagles, are probably playing at being the Holme Valley Beagles on this day as this is HVB country, but the huntsman wears the CVB kit and not the red coat and colours of the HVB.
Fell sticks are an essential part of the kit, for leaning on at the top of the nearest hill, along with survival clothing.

Definitely no glamour here!

The character playing Shylock is actually the ‘Cap man’.  Yes, one has to pay to endure this misery!

I think the hounds must have ‘Gone Away’.  At least the sun broke through.

Someone was ‘walking’ a pair of Harrier pups and the retired beagle is sensibly clad in a warm coat.

This of course is the ‘resting hill’ where with luck one can see all that needs to be seen while only shuffling occasionally from one side to the other.

The hills are alive with the sound of characters.

The sun was fleeting and there was nothing to see apart from the rainbow and the view.

Greys always look the most attractive on photographs I think.

Remember the comparison with the CVB followers!

He looks like the archetypal CVB follower!  Actually as a fleet of foot, lissome youth, he was a Whipper-in to the Holme Valley Beagles in the days of Barry Bridgewater as huntsman.

It became too dark for any more ‘snaps’.
