BOXING DAY MEET 2018 - PENNINE FOXHOUNDS AND H&CVB

There was a Joint Meet in the village on Boxing Day with the Pennine Foxhounds and the Holme & Colne Valley Beagles.  A fine day with the sun bursting through.

It looks like a yawn but I think he was addressing some hounds.

 Some got a free drink.

I think you had to look the part and be someone of significance to get one though.

 And some obviously bought theirs.

After this he can float like a butterfly.  OK, so maybe it is only snuff?

It is said that gates should be climbed at the hinge end when there is no option, so the hounds on the left are using the stile!

'It's a long road that has no turning' and here there is low cloud ahead.

A bit of ROCKWOOD HARRIERS and the OAKLEY FOOT BEAGLES

As an excuse for crap pics, on neither day did the weather lend itself to taking photos, with classic December Dull, yet some other days with nothing happening have been bright and cheerful.

The Rockwood Harriers were out on a day the Met Office forecast serious snow for our area starting late afternoon - Amber Warning and what not, but the bit they got right was some prior rain freezing to give sheet ice on the frozen ground later in the afternoon.  So it was cold and dull as it often seems to be on these occasions.

Last 'snap', then I left just before the rain started and so had to skate my way to my front door on a thin instant ice sheet.

The Oakley Foot left their comfort zone and trudged around the local moorland.  Gloom and showers.  Two of the five H&CVB followers provided a selection of tasty edibles but forgot to bring the liquid part.

A final glimpse for me then home.

HOLME & COLNE VALLEY BEAGLES and BRITANNIA BEAGLES

I have not had much opportunity for beagling recently, not least as there has been dull wet weather and the local Harriers have not been out either, but Tuesday 11th December was a lovely fine sunny day and the H&CVB were out and about.

HCVB is a poor acronym as there is little chance of finding the Holme & Colne Valley Beagles using that to search with, not that CVB was any better.  H&CVB is useless too but may get recognised one day.  I will stick with that.

So the H&CVB on the 11th December on the moors above Holmfirth.

I was wondering if John Cleese of Monty Python fame etc., has any relatives in this area as his Ministry of Silly Walks looks to be alive and well.

Before assembling for some exercise we were treated to excellent hospitality at a local farm where a splendid buffet and liquid refreshment of varying strength was provided.

Britannia Beagles were around locally on a visit, so I got a glimpse of them on the dark murky following day.
