ROCKWOOD HARRIERS OPENING MEET - SATURDAY 27th OCTOBER 2018

A bit gloomy with a flurry of snow on the way to the Meet but it cleared up nicely as the day went on.

Interestingly they moved off in groups by colour.

A lovely bright sunny Autumn day. Being Half-Term, the Meet was specifically for children and newcomers.

Stirrup cups are plastic containers these days, but maybe with the need to cut down on plastic waste the tradition of fancy silver ones may have a resurgence.

The tower in the distance is the Victorian monument on Castle Hill above Huddersfield, seen for miles in all directions, where developers are hoping to erect some edifice as a blot on the landscape, maybe to concrete their legacy for posterity.

Somehow I don't think that way is going to work out too well.

Being an equestrian is not without its hazards as can be seen in one of the images above at the Meet, where a top rider is still on crutches many months later from a crushed foot. Hopefully the casualty today will soon recover from a tumble.
